Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat.

Growing up, I used to get so mad at my mom for not letting me dress up as something scary for Halloween. All the cool kids at school were dressing up as mummies, witches, Frankensteins...you get the picture. I got to be a hippy for Halloween, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, a hockey player, a kitty cat, a flower...again, you get the picture. All the cool kids got to carry a neat little jack-o-lantern to put their candy in, I got a pillow case. When I got home, I wasn't allowed to eat my candy until someone went through it to make sure nothing was opened or previously opened. Ever since I can remember, my Momma has been protecting me from fear and evil. Halloween, for me, was always about having fun and getting lots of candy. Things have changed a lot since I was a trick-or-treater.

I sincerely hate every aspect of Halloween now, minus the Reese's of course! Really though. Have you ever thought about how evil this "holiday" is? It is a day in which we promote fear, violence, confusion, and temptation among many other things. It's an excuse for underage teens to party. It's a reason for young girls to make a show case of their bodies and cause young boys to lust. It inspires people to fill their minds with fear and violence found in movies, and call it entertainment. I can't think of a worse way to spend one day a year!

Okay, I am guilty. I may have watched Scream 2, Friday the 13th, and Saw this weekend. But that is beside the point! I was absolutely terrified to go home and sleep in my apartment by myself after indulging in such violent, scary films! Let's be honest with ourselves, the world we live in is sick and filthy. Nowadays, I really wouldn't put it past some people to hide out in my closet or under my bed (especially in Cleveland...SKETCH!).

Last night I was at Patrick's townhouse and we waited all night for trick-or-treaters. No one showed. Not one kid! His room mate and girlfriend went for a drive to find some kids to give candy to, and there were NONE to be found! This speaks volumes, people! Why aren't parents letting their kids trick or treat?

Let's think about this. Fear, violence, confusion, temptation...all wrapped into one day. These things are all so alike, because they ALL cause us to sin. We have created one day a year to consciously sin and call it a holiday. The devil couldn't be any more thrilled with this! It's no wonder we didn't see any kids trick-or-treating!

I may not understand why people would spend a day of their lives engaging in these activities, but I do know one thing; my God is not the author of fear and confusion. He would never tempt His children, and condemns violence. As Christians, how do we stand for this day? I'm not saying that we should protest Halloween, but I am saying that it is our obligation as followers of Christ (who SAVED us from an eternity of fear, violence, and confusion) to protect those we love from this day. Instead of celebrating fear and temptation, shouldn't we be telling everyone how great our God is for saving us from an eternity of Halloweens?
